1860 (November 16) Large part Bill of Lading cover mailed from Harbour Britain to London, England, showing horizontally bisected One shilling scarlet vermilion used as Six pence, with large margins on all three sides and tied by clear neat oval barred cancellation, neat dispatch double arc datestamp in black at upper left, St. John’s (NO 29) transit postmark in red and London (DE 24) receiver, both in red; cover signed Calves, Rare and Very Fine and one of the nicest of the handful of known examples. (Scott 9a) Expertization: 1999 Behr and 2004 Greene Foundation certificates. Provenance: Goody, Hart, Gilbert ONLY FOURTEEN ONE SHILLING BISECTED COVERS ARE REPORTED, MANY OF WHICH ARE ON OVER FRAGMENTS. A REMARKABLE PENCE ISSUE COVER.

Exceedingly rare cover to USA - only three five-pence franked covers are known with this new rate and t his is the only one known franked with third 1861-1862 five-pence issue, dated less than one month prior new "Cents issues were available
